December 13, 2009 - Football Association (FA) Filming at Amberhill Way

Sunday 13th December, 2009.

Football Association (FA) Filming at Boothstown Football Club (BFC).

On a beautiful, bright and crisp morning in December, BFC opened its gates and welcomed the FA for some football and filming! BFC had been chosen by the FA to provide the facilities and the children to help produce the next FA football training DVD Through Football. What an honour and a privilege for the Club and its players.

At 08.30am, the under 9's Hawks, Juniors and Eagles arrived. After changing into the kits, provided by the FA, a football tactic chat was delivered by the coaches. The players headed out onto the pitch. Laughter and cheers filled the air while the children enjoyed an energetic game of football. While playing, they were photographed and filmed for the new FA training DVD.

At 11.00am, it was the turn of the under 10's Bulls and Dynamos. In the kit provided by the FA, they took up where the under 9's had left and began another energetic game of football. Photographs and filming continued, our players rallied to the challenge and produced some fantastic football, accompanied by some excellent acting for re-takes and re-shooting.

As BFC does not have its own young girl's team, the FA had invited the Manchester United under 10 and under 12 girls to come and take part in the fun and football. The girls all played enthusiastically and energetically, and the last match contained excellent tackles and play.

By the end of play, everyone was tired, exhausted and extremely happy. It had been a very busy, active day full of laughter, fun and football.

In the New Year, the FA will return to BFC to present the new Leadership in Football DVD with a CD of the photos, and hopefully our young players will be become famous when the DVD is released in early May / June 2010.

Big thanks to all players, parents, stand in referees, BFC staff and the FA team for such a fantastic and special day. Special thanks to Georgia Parton for manning the tuck shop, and keeping everyone fed and watered. An even bigger thanks to Debbie and David Tinsley who had opened the gates at 07.00 and kept everything flowing smoothly and remained until 3pm, when all headed off home for a well deserved rest.

Angela Hutton, BFC.

December 10, 2009 - Boothstown Ladies Michelle Ryan is the talk of Salford!!

MICHELLE Ryan is the Boothstown Ladies hot shot who has helped them to the top of the Cheshire and Manchester Division Two West League.

The 22-year-old has scored in every game this season and has racked up a staggering 56 goals – including 10 in one game.

Altogether it’s 61 league goals scored in just six games to put them nine points clear at the top but it’s not just on the attack that the Ladies shine.

They have also proved their defensive worth, having only conceded two goals.

The team are only in their second season of competition.

In their first season, they finished third in the league and runners-up in the Challenge Cup but now sit at the top of the table.

The captain is Jenny Simmons who has only played football for a couple of years, unlike some of the team who have been playing since a young age – a few were at the Manchester United academy.

The youngest player is centre back Natalie Collier (17) and it is her first season at Boothstown and the teenager has been awarded player-of-the-match a number of times.

Boothstown’s oldest players are keeper Karen Golton and right back Michelle Taylor, both having been in womens football for over 10 years and have helped the younger Boothstown players with their years of experience.

September 19, 2009 - AND THEY'RE OFF!

On Saturday 19th September Boothstown Football Club held a fundraising event courtesy of the Greyhound Pub in Boothstown.

The theme was a Horse Racing Night and the rules were simple. There were eight races each with eight horses. The 64 horses were sold to owners at a cost of £3 a horse and each race had a sponsor who provided a prize for the owner of the winning horse.

The 'punters' paid a £2 entry fee and were welcomed with a buffet and a complimentary glass of punch. It was aptly named punch because it certainly packed one!

It was soon 8 o'clock and bets were being placed on the first race at the standard rate of £1 a horse. Dependent on how many people had placed a bet on the winning horse there was the opportunity to retrieve your initial wager. People were getting enthusiastic about the racing and cheering their horses on. There was a break halfway through the racing schedule when a buffet was laid on.

All in all it was a very enjoyable evening and £240 was raised for the club.

Boothstown Football Club would like thank everyone who supported the event, especially the sponsors for their prizes and a very special thank you to the landlords ( Andy, Russ and Steve and landladies, Deb and Deb) of the Greyhound who very kindly allowed us to use their premises.

August 9, 2009 - A Special Day At Wembley

The under 9's team was invited by their sponsor MacDonald's to take part in the pre-match parade at the 2009 Community Shield with complimentary tickets being provided for each child and a parent to watch the match afterwards. All we needed to do was arrange transport to and from Wembley.

We met up at the Walkden branch at 5.30 on Sunday morning for an early breakfast of bacon rolls, juice and coffee kindly provided by Redders and his team before boarding the coach. Everybody was excited and before long the children started to sing Manchester United songs. As we were approaching the end of the M1 we could see the Wembley Arc in the distance and the chants changed to Wem-ber-lee, Wem-ber-lee. We arrived at the stadium with time to spare and the boys changed into their football kits. The children had sun block applied and their hair gelled before checking in at the stadium to practise the parade at 11 o'clock. The parents wouldn't see them again until after the parade so they busied themselves looking round the shops nearby shops and going for a coffee before the stadium doors opened at 1pm.

Our seats were at the top of the stadium, level with the halfway line, which gave us a bird's eye view. Thirty minutes before kick off the pre-match entertainment started with the Wombats singing a few songs and then out walked a 20-foot high red devil and blue dragon. Next came the boy's team parade. There were 10 youth teams in total accompanied by their manager, coach and MacDonald representative holding a banner displaying their team name walking around the perimeter of the pitch waving their flags above their heads to applause and chanting from the crowds. The boys may never get the chance to play at Wembley but this must surely be the next best thing and is something they will always remember as a special moment in their lives.

As they left the pitch to go to their seats they passed the Manchester United and Chelsea players lined up ready to come on. It took about 15 minutes for them to make their way to their seats on the opposite side of the stadium. Not only did they miss the player presentation, the national anthem and the magnificent standing ovation in remembrance of Bobby Robson, more importantly they missed Nani's goal where he cut in from the left wing and blasted the ball past an outstretched Cech - luckily they saw it when it was replayed on the monitor at half time. They took their seats, slipped their United shirts on and joined in the singing with the crowd. Although Chelsea scored twice in the second half they continued to sing and cheer United on and when Rooney chipped the ball over a diving Cech to draw level at 2-2 we all went wild. Unfortunately this was swiftly followed by missed penalties but the children were not downhearted and got back on the coach for the long journey home.

When the coach finally pulled back onto the car pack at Walkden the children were still chattering excitedly about their trip. It was 10.30 pm on what had been a very long day for them. They had been wonderful ambassadors for the club and it was time for a bath and bed. I'm sure they all slept soundly and dreamed about the fantastic experience they had had that day. It had been a very special day.

The travelling party included:
Boothstown Under 9's Manager Gary Stones,
Boothstown Under 9's Coach James Hutton,
MacDonald's Walkden Manager 'Redders' and three of his staff
Players: Adam Stones, George Hutton, Joseph Cox, Matthew Goodwin, Matthew Jervis, Matthew Boden, Ben Dargon, Anthony Jones, Nathan Bester, Daniel Smith, James Gibbard, Thomas Gibbons, James Holland, Thomas Birch, Louis Brogan, Sonny Whitehead.
